Graduate Shift Chemist

As part of our continual expansion, we now wish to recruit a graduate to the post of Shift Chemist, with the successful applicant expected to start during this October at our operations based in the Bootle area of Liverpool.

Main Responsibilities of the role 

  • Responsible for sampling, analysis and mock treatment of all incoming wastes, bulk tanker and non-bulk, final disposal materials, and customer sample enquiries.
  • Providing reaction plans for waste treatment in the plant
  • Ensuring paperwork for incoming waste is compliant, the correct segregation and storage of hazardous waste, in line with all company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Raising non-conformances and providing necessary information to allow these to be actioned.
  • Working alongside site operatives to ensure that waste is processed, stored and transferred in a safe, compliant and timely manner. Assisting with the control of material flows through the plant and ensuring container stocks are maintained to avoid delays and backlogs
  • To maintain effective record keeping and documentation, stock control system, production records and in-process records.
  • This role requires some outdoor work in addition to lab based work with some manual handling. Occasionally you may be asked to help the operators in both the plant and site operations.

Carry out all tasks in line with all relevant permits, legislation and required 

Requirements

  • To be considered for this role you must hold a chemistry degree or HNC
  • Proven wet chemistry skills and analytical experience in a laboratory setting
  • Flexibility to work a rotation shift pattern including weekend work

Desirable

  • Experience within the environmental, waste or chemical industry would be an advantage but not necessarily essential to the right candidate.
  • FLT licence
  • ADR
  • GCMS and ICP experience

Working hours

  • Rotating shift patterns – TBC
  • Will be required to work weekends on a rota basis
  • Will be required to work additional hours as needed to cover the laboratory & provide chemist cover for other site within the company

Salary: £23-£25,000 pa

Please Note the post will be carried out on a shift rota pattern, you will be expected to work/rotate from working 6.00am to 2.00pm and 2.00pm to 10.00pm.
