Graduate Mechanical Engineer
Location: Selby
Salary: £30250
Closing Date: Feb 2024

Are you a graduate Mechanical Engineer looking for a new challenge? Interested in supporting our purpose – to enable a zero carbon, lower cost energy future?

If the answer is yes, then we might have your next opportunity.

Our Mechanical Engineer role encompasses leading both people and contractors, underpinned with subject matter technical knowledge.

Based at Drax Power Station near Selby. There may be some travel to other UK and possibly international sites as required.

It’s a Monday-Friday role, though at times there will be a requirement to work an odd weekend at the height of our project delivery. We can offer you flexibility in terms of owing you time back on these occasions. After all, we understand the need for a work/life balance.

About the role
The role takes responsibility for day-to-day people leadership and has the ownership of a plant area which includes outage engineering support, refurbishment, and maintenance.

You’ll be responsible for long term plant integrity, preserving the boiler & associated plant and fuel handling system, minimising costs, and above all delivering an engineering and maintenance strategy. You’ll play a key role, leading projects that support the long term commercial and operating approach in this plant area.
You’ll also support compliance against legislative, statutory, corporate and site policy and procedures in relation to Health, Safety and the Environment, Engineering and Quality requirements.

There are personal development opportunities for everyone in the team. Personal development is supported through the team manager and the rest of the team including exposure to numerous projects, variation of work and involvement with longer-term projects.
About you

You’ll need to have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering discipline. You will need to have a knowledge of engineering software as well as experience with AutoCAD, 2D and 3D software.

Any experience of working on Engineering projects in operational areas such as materials handling, dust management system, boiler and feedwater systems will be useful but not must. Specifically, you should demonstrate the aptitude to lead and support projects through lifecycle including justification, scoping, design, and implementation.

You’ll be confident leading people and/or managing contractors and can objectively manage the performance of a team to achieve required results.

Most of all, you’ll be able to respond and adapt to change with a positive attitude and a willingness to try and develop new ways of working.
