2024 Graduate Mixed Veterinary Surgeon at D S McGregor & Partners, Caithness, Scottish Highlands

We have an opportunity for a graduate keen to start their career in mixed practice with a friendly and supportive team of 18 vets in the Scottish Highlands. We are an independent, genuinely mixed practice (50:50 SA:LA) and the home of the popular TV series ‘The Highland Vet.’

The normal working day is 9am-5.30pm with an hour for lunch. Our small animal consults are 15 minutes with time scheduled in the diary for client communication. The on call rota is designed to have a minimum of 2 vets on call, which provides the provision for a new graduate to be fully supported by senior colleagues. The shared out-of- hours rota is currently 2:8 with days off in lieu.

Our practices are well-equipped, including:

  • Farm animal – rectal scanners, hydraulic foot tipping crate, EEJ for bull/tup testing. Dedicated large animal building on site used for sheep obstetric work and treating sick calves. We have vets who are trained to carry out PMs at the local SRUC facility.
  • Equine – Repro/Tendon scanner, portable x-ray, power float for dentals.
  • Small animal – DR x-ray, ultrasound, dental x-ray with table-side processor, in-house blood machines, mulitparameter monitor, range of ortho equipment including TPLO kit. We have recently undertaken some extension work to allow for more space for the expanding small animal caseload.
