Band 7 to 8a Clinical Psychologist in Learning Disabilities

Exciting opportunity for newly qualified Clinical Psychologists! Join our Band 7 to 8a preceptorship program in our Intellectual Disabilities Service. Gain valuable experience, mentorship, and guaranteed progression to a Band 8a position in just 18 months.

 

This opportunity is open to newly qualified Clinical Psychologists as well as those who will be qualified by December 2024.

 

You arrive at our modern offices in Bernard Weatherill House in Croydon on a Monday morning. You have a full caseload working with clients with intellectual disabilities and neurodevelopmental conditions, trauma histories, and mental health issues. Each session demands a unique approach, tailoring therapy from CBT to mindfulness practices. Beyond direct client work, through consultations, you'll contribute your expertise to shaping best practices, while teaching and training others, empowering the next generation of psychologists. Your expertise will translate into specialist assessments, interventions, and support, making a profound impact on both individuals and the broader mental healthcare landscape.

Main duties of the job

 

As a clinical psychologist, joining our Croydon Community Intellectual Disabilities Team, you'll play a key role in supporting adults facing intellectual disabilities, neurodevelopmental conditions, trauma histories, and mental health challenges. You'll conduct comprehensive assessments, develop tailored interventions, and offer ongoing support, drawing on your expertise in these areas. You'll also be highly experienced in working within a Positive Behaviour Support model.

Leveraging your expertise, you'll shape the future of care in this dynamic field by providing clinical leadership through various avenues. You'll provide expert consultation to the team through insightful teaching and training sessions, ensuring everyone stays current on best practices. You'll also offer valuable supervision, mentoring, and guidance, fostering their professional development and empowering them to deliver exceptional care. Ultimately, you'll play a direct role in shaping the future of this dynamic field, making a tangible impact on patient outcomes and the team's overall success.

Our modern offices are based in Bernard Weatherill House in Croydon, but you'll be expected to travel across different community sites in the borough to meet with patients. Additionally, our service is co-located with colleagues from adult social care, and we have close working relationships with the Croydon Mental Health in Learning Disabilities Service.
