Carbon Project Analyst

About Rainforest Builder

Rainforest Builder is an integrated nature tech company focused on the restoration of tropical forests at landscape scale. We are on a mission to restore a million hectares of rainforest in Africa, sequestering hundreds of millions of tonnes of CO2, restoring native biodiversity, and delivering equitable economic growth to our host communities.

We are working to combine forestry industry know-how with the latest restoration science, AI and technology to deliver the highest-quality carbon and biodiversity credits. We source, finance, and operate tropical forest restoration projects for some of the world’s largest investors. Our first two countries of operation are Ghana and Sierra Leone.

What makes us different:

Science-focused – we are investing heavily to build globally-leading knowledge on rainforest restoration, from R&D in species selection and silvicultural methodologies, to applying advanced analytics to projecting carbon and biodiversity outcomes. Embedding the latest science in our work allows us to drive continuous improvements in the quality of the projects that we execute.

Biodiversity at our core – we specialise in restoring degraded land to indigenous tropical forest ecosystems, using only native species, ensuring not only large-scale carbon sequestration but the restoration of biodiversity too. We measure, quantify, and verify our biodiversity impact alongside carbon.

Positive community impact – we focus on landscape-scale restoration with the highest standards of direct community engagement, working to professionalise the sector and deliver inclusive economic growth to our host communities.

Fully integrated approach – we execute and manage projects directly with our own specialist restoration forestry teams on the ground, ensuring that we can directly guarantee the continued quality and integrity of a project. We do not believe that long-term, large-scale carbon projects can be outsourced.

Your Role

As Rainforest Builder’s Carbon Project Analyst, you will be at the heart of a company leading the development of a new green industry which is crucial to the future of the planet. Your work will turn forest restoration opportunities into registered and validated carbon removal projects, enabling them to be financed and executed. We are looking for someone who is excited to drive tropical forest restoration for carbon and biodiversity impact at unprecedented scale by informing project design and development and bringing together data on all aspects of forestry restoration projects.

You will work with land acquisition, restoration and data science and silviculture colleagues to understand project feasibility, design new projects, assess project viability and attractiveness. You will collaborate with science and operations colleagues in the field to gather the data you need to produce reports for publication, enabling new projects to be validated, funded and monitored.

You will develop the skillset to design and develop nature-based solutions projects (specifically ARR), and produce all the necessary documentation that it requires. Your work will be validated and verified by global authorities and will be the documentation of Rainforest Builder's restoration forestry projects on global public registries.

As the Carbon Project Analyst, you will develop a deep understanding of current and evolving carbon credit standards and markets, monitor regulatory developments and ensure that Rainforest Builder’s approach to all elements of project development remains best-in-class as new carbon and biodiversity standards evolve.

During your time as the Carbon Project Analyst, you will develop a holistic view of project development from working on a portfolio of projects. You’ll develop the technical and qualitative skills needed to eventually lead large-scale project development, learning from our globally leading team with experts across restoration science, data science, GIS and planning, carbon asset development, large-scale tropical forestry operations, ESG, market development, and financing.

Your Responsibilities

  • Produce project design and certification documentation for new projects end-to-end, leading to successful submission, verification and validation of projects under best-in-class methodologies and standards (both established and new), and which exceed existing regulatory requirements
  • Support decision-making around new project development, including both desk-based and on-the-ground due diligence, and carry out key technical analyses underlying new and existing restoration forestry carbon projects
  • Coordinate with in-country project development and forestry execution and UK scientific analysis teams, to gather data needed to produce project documentation
  • Engage with carbon and biodiversity credit registries, technical consultants and auditors, ensuring Rainforest Builder remains best-in-class and ahead of the curve as new accreditation and monitoring standards evolve
  • Take on a variety of roles related to carbon project development as determined by the needs of a fast-growing company in a new industry

Requirements

  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented but practical and adaptable approach to problem-solving, with an appetite to get involved with both desk-based analysis and on-the-ground project development
  • Exemplary written communication, research and analysis skills, with an ability to clearly synthesise a large amount of information (both qualitative and quantitative) and present it in a clear and structured way
  • Strongly self-motivated, proactive and adaptable – and above all intellectually curious
  • Demonstrated interest in ecosystem restoration, carbon markets, and/or decarbonisation
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant field
  • Fluency in English

Benefits for UK-based employees

  • Competitive salary and employee share option scheme
  • 25 days paid holiday per year, plus bank holidays
  • Dedicated professional development allowance and wellness allowances
  • Generous parental leave and workplace nursery scheme
