Graduate Mechanical Engineer

Job Purpose

To work within our mechanical team to design, develop, assemble and test high quality, fully automated machine vision inspections. These systems will be used to carry out quality control inspections on our customer’s production lines or form stand-alone inspection modules. The position requires a hands-on approach to engineering and continuous professional development.

The role offers exposure to a wide variety of industries including Pharmaceutical & Healthcare, Automotive and Food & beverage. 

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Assisting the design and proposal of potential solutions – developing new machinery into production lines, modifying equipment, designing new products or redesigning existing ones
  • Use SolidWorks to produce detailed designs, generate parts lists and specifications
  • Consider various factors, including use of the product, its environment, materials, the economics of production, safety, legal requirements, quality, production requirements, cost and ease of maintenance
  • Liaise with third parties such as component manufacturers, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers to solve complex problems and deliver projects within agreed deadlines and budgets
  • As necessary, assist with the construction and testing of systems prior to them being dispatched to the customer
  • Gather documentation for manual compilation and training purposes
  • Involvement in all project lifecycle activities, including fault finding, feasibility testing and customer demonstrations, the preparation of design specifications and reports, design, manufacture, installation, commissioning and snagging
  • Attend training and relevant conferences and develop professional knowledge
  • Suggest ways of working within the mechanical functions to help the business develop and grow
  • Form co-operative and respectful working relationships with colleagues

KEY SKILLS 

  • Innovative and passionate approach to engineering
  • A strong “hands-on” mindset
  • Keen interest in machinery process and design within the automation or packaging environment
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of the following:- CAD packages preferably 3D such as SolidWorks, CAM, Microsoft Office
  • Good problem solving ability with attention to detail essential
  • “Can do” attitude
  • Minimum of a 2:1 Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Good documentation skills
  • Excellent people skills and clear communicator with the ability to form strong relationships
  • Ability to plan and work to tight deadlines

The following skills are not essential but would be advantageous:

  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical regulations, GAMP and 21CFR11
  • Understanding of manufacturing techniques and plant control systems i.e. PLC based systems
  • An understanding and appreciation of vision systems would be an advantage but not essential
