Senior Administrator

We have an exciting opening for an experienced administrator to join the Genomic Surveillance Unit (GSU) at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. The position is to provide maternity cover for up to 12 months.  Applications are welcome from internal and external candidates. For internal employees, this could be an excellent secondment opportunity.  

 

The GSU is a group at the Wellcome Sanger Institute dedicated to improving global human health by accelerating the use and impact of genomic surveillance. We deliver products, tools, and services that empower public health partners to add genomic information to their decision-making.

 

About the role

As Senior Administrator, you will report to the Business Manager. You will be responsible for providing a proficient and streamlined administrative service to the Senior Leadership Team of the GSU, consolidating administrative, personal assistant and programme support. You will also ensure the smooth operation of the GSU’s wider administrative function.

 

Responsibilities:

Diary management and coordination

Event planning and management

Organisation of travel

Administrative arrangements for visitors

Other administrative tasks such as purchasing, taking minutes of meetings, completing paperwork and processing expenses.

Management of the Team Administrator function

Act as a key point of contact for matters of an administrative nature.

Ensure that the Business Manager and the Executive Assistant of the Director of GSU are kept informed of issues and situations of importance

 

About you

To excel in this role your personal qualities will include professionalism, personal drive, trustworthiness and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

In addition, you will need the following skills and experience:

Substantial experience in providing high-level administrative support to senior managers, including the proactive management of complex diaries and inboxes.

Able to pay close attention to detail to enable tasks to be completed accurately and in a timely manner

You should be a highly organised, efficient, self-motivated and energetic individual who is able to work independently in a dynamic environment with flexibility, adjusting to varying priorities as necessary and finding solutions to challenges that arise.

You will need to be tactful and discrete in communication and respect confidentiality.

The ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels

Financial administration including invoicing and BACS

Line Management experience

 

Additional information

Please note: This is a hybrid role that requires at least three days a week on our beautiful campus.
