Project Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our engineering team in Leonardo Helicopters Division in Yeovil.

What you will do as a Project Engineer:

  • pertaining to the delivery of specific engineering milestones / projects in support of in-service contracts.
  • Ensure that all tasks are planned in accordance with engineering methodologies defining the scope, programme and budget e.g. Preparation of Engineering Proposals including the MTDC, collation of reports and technical submissions including cost and schedule data as required.
  • Manage the Systems Engineering process, including requirements capture, design, qualification, certification and customer acceptance.
  • Co-ordinate technical effort on UK Military aircraft projects, through maintaining close liaison between the various functional areas within the Engineering Directorate. Integrating the output and making product level technical decisions.
  • Represent the Project Engineering team in multi-functional teams, where required, as part of a specific project.
  • Ensure the maintenance of design documentation / records as necessary to satisfy both the company’s and customer’s requirements.
  • Ability to interrogate / manipulate company system (SAP) in order to produce data to meet department requirements.
  • Provide technical interface with other LH directorates, and with external suppliers as appropriate.
  • Supporting the platform CPE’s in matters relating to airworthiness.

What we are looking for:

  • Apprenticeship/HNC/HND/First degree level as a minimum or equivalent as recognised by professional accreditation schemes or equivalent level of experience in aerospace engineering.
  • Typically meets the requirements for registration as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer with the engineering Council and preferably is a member of a relevant Professional Body.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry.
  • Good knowledge of the Lynx/Wildcat platform
  • High level of knowledge of aircraft MAA regulations.
  • Capability to autonomously work with external vendor’s and produce requirement specifications or statements of work
  • Ability to manage a medium/large team of multi-level capability engineers.
  • Ability to grow and mentor junior engineers.
  • Ability to review and critically assess own work and to peer review the work of others inside a small functional team ensuring that the resulting actions are implemented.
  • Experience of managing the interaction between related technical disciplines in a functional team is desirable.
  • Confidence and ability to challenge/ respond to technical/process issues and ability to interact effectively with customers and suppliers.
  • Expert communication skills necessary to develop and collaborate with multiple stakeholders within the evolution of a design in order to execute tasks so that they meet the design requirements, are safe and fit for purpose for the environment that they will be used within and are completed to schedule and cost.
