Graduate Research Analyst – Energy and Environment, Public Affairs

The Energy and Environment team is at the heart of Ipsos’s Public Affairs policy offering. It covers one of the most innovative and fast-moving policy areas within the UK and internationally. We respond to the needs of the UK government and its agencies to help it design and deliver research and evaluate policies in areas critical to the achievement of net zero, climate resilience, biodiversity and the just transition. 

Some of the principal themes we cover are: decarbonisation, clean growth, low carbon innovation and entrepreneurship, climate change adaptation, public attitudes and behaviour and circular economy. We are looking for a Graduate Research Analyst to join us and support our continued growth in these key areas. 

You'll have the chance to work on some compelling projects that are likely to involve a range of quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation methods to inform national and international government policy in areas such as climate mitigation/Net Zero, climate change adaptation, EU Exit and agricultural transition, nature-based solutions including environmental valuation, biodiversity and climate justice.

 

The Role

As a Graduate Research Analyst, you will provide critical support to the delivery of research and evaluation projects. The main responsibilities of the role include:
 

  • Delivering desk research relating to a diverse range of fields, including renewable energy, carbon capture and storage, air quality, sustainable farming, sustainable fisheries, biodiversity and climate adaptation
  • Supporting with the design and set-up of interviews and surveys of stakeholders, eliciting quantitative and qualitative data to support research, policy design, and evaluations.
  • Supporting on day-to-day project coordination activities and client liaison, including participating in project management meetings, supporting with project team coordination and coordinating with other departments (e.g. telephone survey, compliance, legal, etc.).
  • Drafting sections of reports, building a narrative of our research, sharing your findings with the client and impacting policy development with a powerful and insights-led story. Help us think about how we can deliver our conclusions and recommendations in an engaging and meaningful way
  • Contributing to business development, supporting proposal writing

You will also have the opportunity to increase Ipsos’s impact on energy and environment policy and social change in the UK by supporting and engaging with the Impact group, writing articles, attending events and engaging in social media.

 

About You

Essential:

  • A passion and enthusiasm for informing energy, climate and environmental policy development
  • A hunger to unpick questions into their constituent parts, and to learn and share learning around the different policy areas within climate and the environment
  • Strong team-player eager to learn on the job, and able to work efficiently under pressure and to be accountable for managing your own workload
  • Exceptional organisational skills as well as the ability to multi-task and work towards multiple deadlines
  • Able to work creatively and think commercially with a curiosity and drive to learn, understand and improve, using trouble-shooting skills to think on your feet
  • Strong interpersonal skills – the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively

Desirable:

  • An academic background in geography, natural environment, climate change, environmental economics, or social sciences.
  • Experience of using (or demonstrated interest of learning) mathematical or statistical software such as SPSS, SAS or R.
  • Familiarity with specific energy, carbon emissions and/or environment datasets and data analysis experience.
  • Experience in designing and delivering surveys, interviews and/or focus groups
