Economist / Competition Economist / Intellectual Property Economist

OxFirst (see for recruitment details: http://www.oxfirst.com/careers) was founded twelve years ago by Oxford Academics and the aim of our think tank is to provide economic assessments to law firms, high-technology firms, public policy makers and international organizations. Our focus is the interplay of technology, intellectual property law and international economics. Our studies, research and reports have served as baseline of key decisions on technology and innovation strategy in the World Bank, UNDP, the UK Government, but also in firms like Intel or Google. 

Depending on mutual agreement, we can work online, hybrid or in our London office. 

The type of economists we are looking for have strong quantitative skills, are familiar with econometrics and statistics and are strong at modelling complex legal scenarios. In addition, you are a creative thinker and eager to make a difference to the world of innovation and enjoy lateral thinking. Finding pleasure in undertaking research and good writing capabilities are very desirable.

Below you find what we think could be very helpful for your work in our think tank.  

  • Strong interest in economics, competition economics, economics of patents
  • Produce high quality quantitative research, with a view to provide transformative insights. 
  • Develop analytical models by using creative problem-solving skills and mathematical and/or statistical modelling techniques; prepare both quantitative and qualitative studies.
  • Research, evaluate, and analyse innovation related data by computer using software applications. Develop data resources to assist in proactive and targeted analysis and identification of emerging innovation trends.

Skills Required:

  • Self-starter, able to work independently.
  • Strong numerical skills & knowledge of econometrics
  • Positive ‘Can do’ attitude
  • Analytical thinking, problem solving skills and ability to apply those skills in constructing models, collecting data to populate the models and produce model results.

 

Ability to:

  • Write original material, edit, proofread and finalize written material
  • Gather and report numerical data and produce statistical reports.
  • Work completely and accurately under time constraints and deadlines.
  • Report results of analysis in writing

 

Education:

  • Educated to B.A., M.A. or D.Phil. level
  • Economics, Statistics, Physics, STEM or similar natural science background, International Political Economy
  • Exceptional academic and extra-curricular track record
