Graduate Chemical Engineer

Salary & Benefits: Salary range £28,875 - £33,875 per annum dependant on experience, company car through company car lease scheme, annual bonus, attractive pension scheme (Up to 10% company contribution), life assurance cover of 4 times pensionable salary and 25 days annual leave, 9 x bank holidays, plus a wellness day and development opportunities in line with the Graduate Development Programme.  Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week between a working window of 8:00am-6:00pm Monday – Friday 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate position in the Engineering team at Yorkshire Water.

THE ROLE: 

The Graduate Programme is a two year programme offering five structured placements within your business area, with 4 shorter placements in other areas, including our core functions, such as Finance, Health & Safety, People, Procurement to provide a holistic and rounded business learning journey. 

The variety within the programme will see you working across our business and undertaking activities alongside your colleagues to meet the challenges faced by our industry ranging from how to achieve net zero carbon emissions through to how we plan for drought or flood events. The Engineering function covers a number of connected, yet discrete areas, with the opportunity to work across exciting areas, such as identifying and delivering innovation opportunities, championing nature based solutions, through to contributing to strategies central to Yorkshire Water achieving our vision. 

Engineering is a fundamental, enabling function residing at the heart of the way we manage our operational assets to deliver excellent customer service and protect the environment for the benefit of the people who live within and visitor Yorkshire. With expertise spanning  Process, 

Chemical Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and 

Automation we support every aspect of the asset lifecycle - from concept through to decommissioning – by creating and managing assets that can last more than 100 years and so, no two days can ever the same. 

Our Engineering team ensures that any work we undertake is designed, constructed, inspected, modified and managed so as to provide a safe, compliant and serviceable operational assets that truly underpin excellent customer service and protects the environment. 

Through collaboration with our suppliers we deliver optimal engineering solutions to complex business needs by: 

  • Identifying the root cause of asset related asset failure or under performance 
  • Undertaking intrusive and non-destructive testing on operation assets 
  • Reinvigorating or re-purposing existing assets to avoid construction where possible 
  • Optimizing the design of assets we construct 
  • Managing / modifying / updating technical standards, policies and procedures the company and its supply chain applies 
  • Maximizing the value of our capital investment for customers and simultaneously minimizing the environmental impact of our construction and maintenance activity. 

 As a Graduate Chemical Engineer you will: 

 Investigate and understand the root cause of a business risk 

  • Identify and promote opportunities for targeted capital investment 
  • Identify safety / environmental hazards and support the engineering design processes to design and develop solutions that keep customers & colleagues safe and protect the environment 
  • Participate in detailed technical studies to create a better understanding of operational assets so that we can continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our asset management practices 
  • Identify and implement asset improvements that enhance asset security, resilience, performance and reduce operating costs 
  • Validate that assets are constructed to accepted designs and standards 
  • Assist in the inspection, testing and improvement of mechanical assets 
  • Understand and develop industry 4.0 focussed methods of maintaining assets

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Minimum 2:1 Bachelors degree in a Chemical Engineering discipline

Recruitment Process – 

Closing date – 19th April, 2024 

Our selection process will include an information/assessment day on 3rd May, 2024 and also a competency based interview. Interviews will be held between  8th -10th May we hope to carry out assessments and finalise selection decisions in May. 

We will hold an introduction session on 28th August, 2024 

Start date –16th September, 2024
