Summer School Activities & Residential Officers / Debaters

Are you an energetic undergraduate or postgraduate wanting work in a small team as one of our  Activities and Residential Officers (ARO) this summer? Are you a keen debater?

Successful candidates will be responsible for running events and activities and ensuring that students with us enjoy a safe and engaging environment.

Key responsibilities:

● Lead a group of 12 students as their mentor for the duration of the summer school and act as a role model, demonstrating positive behaviour and attitudes at all times.
● Lead and supervise activities, sports, excursions and overnight trips.
● Ensure that all activities and events are safe, inclusive, and accessible to all students.
● Provide pastoral care and support to students who may be experiencing personal or social difficulties, and alert the Academy’s Directors.
● Work closely with the Academy’s Directors and other staff members to ensure that all students are safe and happy.
● Monitor and manage student behaviour, ensuring that all the Academy’s rules and regulations are followed.
● Attend any medical or emergency situations that may arise, following the Academy’s protocols and procedures.
● Maintain accurate records of student attendance, behaviour, and medical incidents.
● Supervise students during meal times and other scheduled activities as per rota.
● To live in residential Cambridge college accommodation and respond at any hour to emergencies there should they occur.
● To be contactable by mobile phone in the run up to the summer school and at all times during the specified summer school dates.

An ability to lead debating classes will be useful but is not necessary. AROs taking debating classes will have their ‘key responsibilities’ adjusted accordingly.

Training will be provided in both roles (ARO & Debating) as necessary. Meals and accommodation will be provided at our summer school venue - Clare College, Cambridge.

At Cambridge International Academy we believe that a high quality summer school experience should not only be for those who can afford it.

Since 2016 our British Accreditation Council accredited Summer Schools and online courses have been helping students learn more about higher education and beyond, and to accomplish their potential.

In 2023 we fully funded 25% of our summer school places to deserving but under-represented students. In our 2024 summer schools, we are continuing with this commitment.

Come and join us this July and / or August to give all our students a life-changing experience that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
