Summer Counsellor

Overview:

As a Counsellor, you will be an integral part of a dynamic team focused on providing a safe, enriching, and memorable experience for students on an elite summer programme. Your primary responsibilities will include ensuring student safety through actively engaging with the students on a day-to-day basis, and implementing a variety of events and activities under the guidance of the Junior Deans (team leaders) and the overall programme leadership.

This role would suit confident and responsive individuals who are passionate about communicating and understanding young people and working collaboratively to solve problems in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Safety:

  • Priorities and ensure the safety and well-being of students during activities, events, and daily routines.
  • Be proactive and diligent in student supervision, responding promptly to any safety concerns.

 

Representing Oxford Royale:

  • Uphold Oxford Royale's reputation by embodying the company's values and fostering positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Tackle all duties with the highest degree of professionalism.

 

Student Experience:

  • Actively engage with students daily, creating a supportive and open environment.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of the activities, events, and coach excursions considering the student safety and enjoyment at all times.
  • Support the academic programme lessons and seminars where required as well as supporting the student debates and public speaking sessions.

 

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Work collaboratively with other Counsellors, Junior Dean, and programme leadership to create a positive team environment.
  • Be flexible and adaptable in handling various responsibilities related to student engagement and safety.
  • Set a high standard of behaviour, safety and responsiveness.

 

Administration, Systems and Compliance: 

  • Take seriously and execute health and safety responsibilities, for example student registers.
  • Follow all training and guidance provided.
  • Write reports on all programme incidents.

 Position Details   

  • This role will be based at one of our summer sites in Oxford, Cambridge, or London.
  • Working hours will be approximately 40 hours per week across 6 days. This includes morning, afternoon, and night shifts as assigned by Campus Management.
  • Our courses are for international students aged 13-15, 16-18 and run in 2-week sessions, with the majority of courses running from June to mid-August.
  • There are two-, four- and six-week contracts available.
  • Mandatory training and campus set up will take place during the week before student arrivals.

 

Essential Qualifications / Experience:

  • Completed at least A-Levels or equivalent examinations.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience working with young people;
  • Able to lead activities in an area of specific interest e.g. sport / drama / crafts;
  • Undergraduate degree or working towards one.
