Geoenvironmental Engineer

Tier Environmental is seeking a Graduate Geoenvironmental engineer (or engineer up to two years' experience) to join our exciting and expanding consultancy. The position is primarily based in the North West or Midlands, with some home working opportunities, but will also require a willingness to travel.
 

The successful candidate will form part of a team of engineers, geologists and environmental scientists who are part of the larger Tier Consult Group engineering team of civil and structural engineers. We specialise in identifying, quantifying, and reducing abnormal costs to developments at an early stage and provide effective holistic solutions for a range of geotechnical, environmental, and waste management issues for both commercial and private clients. 

The services we offer include:
• Phase 1 desk studies and site walkovers & Phase 2 intrusive contaminated land investigations;
• Geotechnical appraisals and ground investigations;
• Material Management Plans and soil waste consultancy;
• Radon and landfill gas assessments and remedial design;
• Environmental risk assessment to comply with regulatory requirements;
• Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessments for human health and controlled waters;
• Remediation design and implementation;
• Remediation project management and supervision;
• Site abnormal assessments (foundations, earthworks and contaminated land);
• Shallow mining investigation, including coal, ores and brine;
• Land assessment of potential status as contaminated land and associated liabilities;
• Plate load testing for mobile crane and working/pile rig platforms, concrete coring/testing,
soakaway testing;
• Utility services for exploratory investigations;
• Lead in paint and Anthrax in plaster surveys; and,
• Flood Risk Assessments / Flood Consequence Assessments.


The successful candidate will be educated to degree level. 

The successful candidate would preferably have gained placement experience or industry experience within a role undertaking contaminated land, geotechnical and civil engineering site investigations. 

Remediation and verification work are also core to this position. The candidate must have a high level of report writing skills and must be able to tailor reports to a range of different scopes. 

A master’s degree is beneficial either within geological or environmental science disciplines.

The position requires willingness to work nationwide, away from home for site work, potentially for extended periods of time. 

Overqualified
(>4 years’ experience, PhD, etc) applications will not be considered.

The success full candidate will possess excellent time keeping, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills and a keen willingness to learn.

The responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Writing of Phase 1 and Phase 2 reports;
• Design, set up and management of site investigations, including logging of soils and rocks;
• Management of site based sub-contractors;
• Recording and interpretation of site data such as environmental and geotechnical laboratory results, ground gas data, in-situ geotechnical data and borehole logs;
• Scheduling of chemical and geotechnical testing on soil, rock and groundwater samples; and,
• Preparation of generic and site-specific health and safety risk assessments.
 

The ideal candidate should preferably have experience with the use of borehole software such as HoleBase/AGS and have excellent MS Word and Excel skills, as well as a basic knowledge of CAD.
 

As the role will involve both client and regulator liaison, strong communication and report writing skills will be required. This role is ideal for a Geoenvironmental Engineer looking to take the next step in their career. 

Applicants should have membership of a professional organisation such as the
Geological Society or CIWEM, ideally working towards Chartered Status.
 

This is a permanent position with a company vehicle and other benefits. A full UK driving license is required.
 

Due to the nature of the interview process, candidates should be a permanent resident in the UK.
