Junior Operations Analyst - Climate Tech

About Marble

Marble is a climate tech venture studio. Our north star is to erase billions of tons from annual greenhouse gas emissions and create a thriving future.

We partner with scientists, engineers and operators to create new deep tech companies that solve hard climate problems — slash emissions, remove carbon from the atmosphere, and cool the planet — while reshaping multi-billion $ industries.

We're proud to be backed by leading climate investors across Europe and the US.

About The Role

We are looking for a Junior Operations Analyst to help us coordinate the backstage of building breakthrough climate companies.

Covering talent, programme and events operations, you’ll play a pivotal role in the development of Marble and its companies.

This role is ideal for a process driven person who thrive in science and startup settings, with an interest in deeptech and a driving motivation to mitigate climate change.

Reporting to our Talent & Platform Associate, you will look for brilliant individuals, handle day-to-day programme operations, and contribute to building a community through events (physical and online).

You will be immersed into the worlds of climate and deep tech venture creation. Expect direct exposure to the many aspects of running a climate tech studio: talent sourcing, programme operations and events

Location: HQ in Paris, 75010.

Language: English & French fluency required (one of them is your native language).

Availability: 6-month internship starting Sept 2024

Responsibilities

Reporting to our Talent & Platform Associate, you will support the development of core activities of Marble.

Your day-to-day will vary but mostly fall into 4 main pillars:

  • Talent Operations. You will identify and reach out to passive outlier candidates with strong technical expertise and Founder potential. You will help coordinate our processes for evaluating the traits of the best founders, and ensuring we find the right proxies & heuristics to measure them.
  • Programme Operations: You will work across the full team to support the delivery of the Marble venture creation programme. You’ll have a front seat at the innings and backstage of building climate deeptech companies, from theory to practice, from venture ideation to creation and securing pre-seed investment. You’ll ensure a prompt feedback loop for all our ventures - equipping our founders and the overall ecosystem with tools to catalyze their learnings.
  • Events Operations: You will drive the organization of digital and physical events to help gather our communities, while having the chance to network with some of the most brilliant minds in climate tech. You will also be part of some of the most active climate tech digital (slack) communities, and engage with like-minded individuals.
  • Tools & Automation: You will ensure that our talent & programme runs smoothly on a daily basis to deliver an outstanding experience for our Founders-in-Residence, from onboarding to work-sessions, investment committee, and more. You have a knack for low code tools, AI-powered processes, and automation to help supercharge our efficiency.

Progress and plans for future work will be summarized in reports to our Talent & Platform Associate.

The role may occasionally involve travel to attend conferences and other events.

Requirements

While this role has many dimensions, you will spend most of your time interacting with deeply technical, mission-driven individuals working in climate tech. Your ability to learn on the job will be more important than ticking all the boxes, but if you recognise yourself below, we would love to hear from you:

  • You are studying for a technical or business degree and have a passion for science, especially in domains related to emerging climate solutions.
  • You already had exposure (e.g. internship, school project, etc) in a startup environment, such as venture backed startup, studio, accelerator, venture fund, or related.
  • You are familiar with modern tools: Slack, Notion, Airtable, Zapier, office, etc.

Your ability to learn on the job is more important than ticking every single box. However we would especially love to hear from you if this sounds like you:

  • You enjoy engaging with scientists and engineers who may work in highly specialist fields, and to understand their work. You are fascinated by the wonders of chemistry, materials science, biotechnology, clean energy, machine learning, and more.
  • You have a constant appetite for learning new things. You can quickly grasp key concepts of a new field by speaking with experts and reading summary materials.
  • You are an excellent written and verbal communicator, able to produce engaging online content, as well as presenting in public. Ideally, you have an intuitive sense of design and you are able to create compelling visual narratives.
  • You actively seek ownership. You are comfortable defining your own goals and enjoy working on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • You make things happen. You are outcome focused, action oriented, and comfortable with ambiguity. You can pick up tasks and projects from start to finish.
  • You are a people person. You are approachable, empathetic and generous, with a high level of emotional intelligence. People feel energised around you.
  • You are a pragmatic optimist with a driving motivation to mitigate climate change.

What We Offer

  • €1,500 monthly internship stipend
  • Office in central Paris.
  • 1 week off in December during the office Christmas shut down
  • Meal vouchers (Swile), 50% transport refund
  • Exposure to our network of top founders, investors, and advisors
  • Working with the brightest, most driven individuals you’ll meet
  • Rapid learning curve and personal development

What is hard to capture just with the above is the unique opportunity this role offers to join Marble as part of its very first vintage and shape the future of what we hope will become a top institution in climate technology in Europe and beyond.
