Graduate Accountant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Accountant to join our finance team in Winsford, Cheshire on a full time basis whilst working towards a professional accounting qualification.

Based at our Group head office, the successful candidate will become an integral member of the finance function, providing support to both the UK and Group finance teams.

As a group we have seen considerable growth in recent years, both organically and through acquisition. In March 2024 we announced our proposed acquisition of the Paris based Peters Surgical Group which will significantly grow our Group and add a further 10 additional entities. The group and finance team is evolving and we are looking for a high-performing individual to replace a previous graduate who has progressed to a new position within the Group. Since launching our graduate scheme in 2018 we have supported a number of individuals through their accountancy qualification and have a strong track record for developing talented finance individuals - all previous graduates have now progressed to new positions within the Group. 

Full study support will be provided to the successful candidate at a recognised professional qualification training college. 

 

What will this role involve?

The role will support the preparation of the monthly management reports and forecasts and preparation of financial information such as budget, statutory accounts and strategic plan information for the UK entity.

This will include supporting and taking ownerships of tasks, including; 

  • Preparation of management accounts and monthly financial analysis
  • cost centre management
  • cashflow management and forecasting and group treasury
  • Intercompany management and reconciliations
  • budgeting, statutory reporting
  • VAT/Intrastat/HMRC returns
  • Supporting purchase ledger or sales ledger activities as required.
  • Provide information as necessary during the full year and half year audit process.
  • Support completion of statutory accounts in line with UK GAAP / FRS101.

 

As the successful candidate progresses through their professional qualification, their work will evolve to include more complex accounting tasks and additional ownership of projects and business improvements ideas.

 

What we’re looking for

  • Educated to degree standard (finance/business orientation preferable)
  • Strong numeracy and technical skills.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills:
  • The jobholder will be required to communicate verbally in person, on the telephone and on e-mail within the immediate team and with others identified above.
  • The jobholder will be required to participate in meetings.
  • Jobholder has day to day interaction with the following: Managers, Cost Centre holders, CFO, Financial Controllers, Financial Accountants and other staff, Oracle support team, Suppliers, Customers, Benefit Providers, Bank, HMRC.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and able to develop ideas through to the execution stage
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision and to a deadline.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to use computer software packages, including good knowledge of Excel.
