Social Worker

We are looking for a motivated Grade 8 Social Worker to join our Hospital Social Work Team.  We work with Adult’s over 18 to facilitate a safe transfer of care from hospital and then follow them into the community to assess long-term care needs and maximise their independence.   You must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and working closely with our multi-disciplinary system partners.

Your main responsibilities as a Level 1 Hospital Social Worker:

  • You will manage a varied caseload, which will include capacity assessments, best interest decision making, Care Act assessments, and being part of a duty rota.
  • You will deliver exceptional social care to the adults we are supporting and their carers and promote choice and control as much as possible.
  • The team is looking to appoint an individual who is enthusiastic to engage in adopting strengths based, person centred assessments.
  • You will engage in outcomes focused and preventative conversations which build on the strengths of people and their local networks.

Essential requirements as a Level 1 Hospital Social Worker include:

  • Degree in Social Work, or relevant Social Work qualifications recognised by the Central Council for Education & Training
  • Be registered as a Social Worker with Social Work England.

Wakefield Adult Social Care has implemented a Social Work Career Framework to support the professional development of its social work practitioners.  This enables Social Workers who have successfully completed the ASYE Programme to be considered for progression to the role of Experienced Social Worker (G9).

If you’ve already completed the ASYE Programme with your current employer, this must be evidenced at recruitment.  Once you have consolidated your learning 2 years post ASYE Programme completion and demonstrated to us that you’re working at or significantly towards the level of an Experienced Social Worker as defined by the PCF, you are able to nominate yourself for progression with your managers endorsement.

If this position is your first paid employment as a social worker since qualifying (unless you are a Wakefield Council employee who has received funding to achieve your social work degree), you are entitled to claim a one of £1000 payment.  This will support you with any resources you need to buy to support you to complete the ASYE Programme.

What can I expect?

  • This is a full-Time post of 37 hours per week Monday-Friday and includes a Saturday 1 in 6 which is reflected in your pay and a subsequent day off.
  • 30 days of Holidays plus 8 Bank Holidays.
  • Support and ongoing training
  • Discounted and subsidised public transport (Arriva Bus Annual Travel Ticket, Northern Trains Limited (NTL), MetroCard)
  • The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
  • Great range of benefits including discounted membership to our excellent leisure facilities with free 12 weeks exercise program with a dedicated personal trainer, discounts for a range of retail, entertainment, health and leisure providers, cycle to work scheme and many more.
