GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANT - MANCHESTER

We are extremely excited to announce the launch of our brand-new Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Scheme, designed to cultivate the next generation of Higher Education Lecturers. This comprehensive 2-year program is an incredible opportunity for recent graduates, early career starters or career changers to kick-start their career and gain invaluable experience within the Higher Education sector. 

We have opportunities available at our centrally located campuses in Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds.  It is an expectation that you will work on campus, where we offer year-round teaching, delivering courses throughout the year and teaching can be scheduled between the hours of 9am to 5.45pm. 

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant at The University of Law you will contribute significantly to the educational environment by assisting in various capacities, such as developing teaching/learning materials, teaching and assessment tasks, workshops, tutorials, and seminars.  

Those joining the scheme are supported to become ready for a lectureship in Higher Education and will successfully complete three awards within the two-year program: 

  • Associate Fellowship of Advance HE (year one)
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (Teaching Qualification) (year two)
  • Fellowship of Advance HE (year two)

*The University covers all training and related tuition fees. 

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will develop academic skills by supporting the teaching and learning process across a breadth of subject areas primarily on our LLB programme starting in September.  

As our Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will: 

  • Deliver high quality teaching and support for learning by using appropriate teaching, and assessment methods
  • Assess the work and progress of students, including marking formative and summative assessments and providing constructive feedback and feedforward
  • Ensure that quality and regulatory standards are adhered to in learning, teaching and assessment practice.
  • Signpost students on academic or pastoral and wellbeing aspects during their learning journey
  • Fulfil administrative duties in areas relating to admissions, timetabling, examinations, assessment or progress and student attendance

We are looking for people who are/have: 

  • Undergraduate degree in Law and/or completion of BPC/LPC/SQE or Masters in a legal subject
  • Work experience that has required written and verbal communications, professional conduct and adherence to policies and procedures
  • Some degree of practical legal experience would be desirable
  • Confident and articulate presentation skills
  • Ability to confidently give constructive feedback
