Salary: UH4 £24,248 pa to £25,138 pa with potential to progress to £27,181 pa on achieving designated skills and experience
Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Location: College Lane, Hatfield
We are seeking a Technical Officer to join our highly committed Team, working across the School of Health and Social Work to help organise and maintain skills development equipment and associated stock, in the support of teaching and learning for a wide range of staff and students in a busy and vibrant environment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
To adopt a proactive stance with students and academic staff engage in teaching and learning, to help ensure correct set up of practical skills equipment before teaching sessions, troubleshooting during and appropriate return of equipment after use. You will also contribute to the management of a catalogue of consumable items, as directed by the Technical Manager. The prompt replenishment of session kit boxes/trolleys as per specification, disposal of obsolete or out of date products and contributing to a full stock take at the end of every academic year, as directed will be important elements of your role.
In addition to this you will contribute to the planning and management related to estates development, building usage by students, specific courses and other shared spaces, and to develop practices to ensure effective, efficient and timely utilisation of School facilities. You will work in collaboration with others in achieving the overall objectives of courses, the School and University, engaging directly with students, academic staff and needs of programmes of study.
Skills and experience
You will have proven experience of working within technical facilities and a track record of success in understanding and supporting the facilities and services required for learning, teaching, research, university business and administration requirements. You will also be expected to have an awareness of commercial, institutional, and departmental relationships and an appropriate manner in dealing with various contacts.
You will have a customer-orientated approach to service design and delivery and good communications (verbal and written), interpersonal and presentation skills. The role will also require you to be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines whilst being flexible and adaptable to team and workload requirements.
Qualifications required.
You must hold a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C and above/grade 4 or above including Maths and English (or equivalent qualification) or proven experience.
