HR & Development Support Officer

The Opportunity: 

We’re excited to be experiencing considerable growth in demand for our services. So, we’re looking for a HR & Development Support Officer to assist us in our exciting work in sustainability recruitment and employment activities. You will also provide an administrative helping hand to the education team to deliver our many and varied programmes, such as the Skills Bootcamp in Sustainability & Environmental Management, Sustainability Leadership Skills Programme, Carbon Literacy Training, or more, in our ever-evolving charity.

About the Role: 

This people-focused sustainability role will be supporting our administrative processes and recruitment services. It will have a strong external focus, working with partners, clients, candidates and our “Change Agents” on placement. 

We need someone with good HR record-keeping practice. A background in recruitment is desirable but not essential, as you will receive full training in this area. However, you must demonstrate good judgment, have a personal commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, have excellent communication skills and a strong eye for detail. This is a diverse role, but you can expect to be:

  • Creating and posting job adverts, supporting the Development Manager with the management of the Green Jobs Board and writing job alert emails using templates in Brevo. 
  • Supporting clients with writing inclusive job descriptions and creating interview packs.
  • Shortlisting and screening candidates, conducting telephone interviews and online/in-person interviews.
  • Undertaking onboarding, including reference-checking and conducting digital Right-to-Work and DBS checks.
  • Supporting Change Agents placement staff with HR enquiries, review and appraisal process (working together with the Finance manager on payroll matters) and personal development planning.
  • Working with clients and partners to create new Change Agent placements, ensuring that all required recruitment and employment documentation is in place.
  • Work with the Development Manager to find new recruitment opportunities. 
  • General team support including scheduling meetings, interviews, accommodation, travel arrangements and supporting event management. 
  • Working with the education team to support the administration of programmes, including the onboarding process, record-keeping of learner progress, arranging support sessions and issuing certificates. 
  • Help to develop and streamline processes.
  • Supporting learners with assistance on job-hunting, CV and interview skills.
  • Ad-hoc administrative support to the wider team. 

 

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experience in a HR, people management or recruitment role.
  • Passionate about sustainability and tackling climate change.
  • A strong and capable administrator – a ‘double-checker’!
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Very well organised and comfortable prioritising work effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Highly self-motivated – a positive, professional, can-do attitude.
  • Able to manage HR matters and demonstrate good judgement. 
  • Aware of the importance of Data Protection requirements and handling confidential information with sensitivity and discretion. 
  • A willingness to get stuck-in, take initiative and work supportively within a close-knit team. 
  • Tech-savvy in and capable in all Microsoft Office applications
  • Committed to personal development. 
  • Strong personal commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. 

 

Desirable:

  • Experience in using social media in a professional capacity. 
  • Experience using Canva.
  • Professional HR or Recruitment qualification. 
  • Experience in a client-facing role.

Details:

CAUK reference: 2494

Hours/Week:  Part-time 4 days per week 0.8 FTE (Full time is 37.5 hours per week). There is potential for this role to grow into a full-time position.

Travel & Work outside normal hours: We travel within the UK to facilitate interviews, attend conferences or work with our partners. As a sustainability charity, we use low carbon travel wherever possible and encourage the use of remote technologies for interview facilitation when appropriate.

Annual leave: 25 days plus 8 bank hols FTE (pro-rated for part-time)

Probation period: 3 months

Notice period (after probation): 2 months
