Certification Reviewer - Green Infrastructure and Buildings

The Building with Nature Standards provide planners and developers with evidence-based, how-to, guidance on delivering high quality green infrastructure. Through supporting and championing best-practice, our aim is to help great schemes get built, raise the bar for industry, and mainstream green infrastructure in placemaking.

EDGE is growing at an exponential rate, quickly becoming the most dominant green building certification in many countries around the world. Designed for mass market transformation, EDGE is being applied at scale across the world and is focused on promoting resource efficiency and decarbonisation. As one of the two global certifiers, Sintali delivers EDGE certification in over 170 countries.

We are seeking an individual who will be checking, verifying, and assuring that projects adhere to the Building with Nature standards and the EDGE Buildings standard, playing a critical role in the certification process.

 

What is the role?

We are looking for an individual to join our technical team and act as a gatekeeper of quality. You will be responsible for reviewing assessments of projects against best practice building and green infrastructure standards that our Assessors and auditing partners submit to us, checking them for compliance with quality and performance standards and providing a recommendation as to whether the projects can be certified. 

You will have an opportunity to work with consultants, assessors and auditors across the UK and around the world who are working on these, reviewing projects ranging in size, typology, location and profile.

Duties and responsibilities: 

  • Technical reviews
    • Completing technical audits of Building with Nature Award applications. 
    • Reviewing EDGE audits and recommendations for certification.
    • Acting impartially, to a high standard, and in a timely manner in accordance with defined service levels, policies, processes and systems.
    • Making certification decisions or recommendations.
  • Certification generation
    • Preparing of Building with Nature and EDGE Certificates.
    • Issuing Building with Nature and EDGE Certificates.
  • Technical communication
    • Answering technical and non-technical queries related to Building with Nature and EDGE Standards and assessments/audits.
    • Supporting the Building with Nature Assessor network and the EDGE Expert and EDGE Auditor network during the certification process
    • Providing clear and concise feedback to assessors and auditors.
  • Process improvement
    • Contributing to ongoing improvements in the review process to improve efficiency and consistency of certification decisions.
  • Other tasks as required to support the team. 

 

Essential skills:

  • Understanding of planning policy and development processes in the UK.
  • Familiarity with construction industry, specifically design and building procurement stages and processes.
  • Excellent literacy skills (minimum of Grade A* - C in English at GCSE or equivalent) and ability to demonstrate clarity and effectiveness in written communications.
  • Excellent numeracy skills (minimum of Grade A*- C in Maths at GCSE or equivalent) 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to demonstrate effective use of oral communication over the phone/video conferencing.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Curious and keen to understand patterns, identify missing information and use critical thinking to make sound judgments. 
  • Self-driven and self-motivated.
  • Able to self-manage and work as part of a cooperative and collaborative remote team.
  • Able to manage competing priorities and deadlines across multiple tasks.

 

Desirable skills:

  • Knowledge of the functions of green infrastructure (GI) as it relates to delivering benefits to people through supporting health and wellbeing outcomes; the role of GI in the management of water quantity and quality, and associated benefits to biodiversity and amenity; and the role of GI in protecting and enhancing space for nature and biodiversity.
  • A-levels / BTEC / Degree or other higher-level qualification in a relevant discipline such as ecology, planning, landscape architecture, social sciences.
  • Practical experience of planning policy and development processes.
  • On the ground experience of projects – ideally major development (residential/commercial) 
  • Knowledge of green infrastructure policy in England, Scotland and Wales including Biodiversity Net Gain.
  • General understanding of green-building standards.
  • EDGE Expert accreditation or equivalent. 
  • Approved Building with Nature Assessor.
  • Experience of auditing. 
  • Data visualization and analytics.

 

Requirements

  • Ability to work from home.
  • Must be authorised to work in the United Kingdom

 

Location: Remote but must be based in the UK and able to travel to London on a monthly basis for team meetings
