Research Analyst: European health policy

RAND is a not-for-profit research institute with over 30 years of experience in conducting policy research for governments, international organisations, research councils, charitable foundations, and other organisations. We believe that good research helps shape sound answers to pressing societal challenges, ultimately making communities safer and more secure, healthier and more prosperous in the future. RAND Europe has approximately 170 staff across offices in Cambridge, Brussels, and the Netherlands.

We are recruiting a Research Analyst to join the Health and Wellbeing Research Group at RAND Europe, conducting research for European health policy. This role is part of our growing research group on health and wellbeing, with a focus on providing research and analysis on health for the European Union institutions.

We provide research and analysis on health policy for a wide range of the European institutions on health, including for the Commission (especially DG SANTE), agencies (ECDC, EMA), and the Parliament. We also carry out work for national governments and other stakeholders, and work in partnership with other public, private and third sector institutes and stakeholders.

The Health and Wellbeing (HWB) Research Group group members have backgrounds in health services research; health economics; epidemiology; public health; psychology; workplace health, wellbeing, and safety; health innovation; sociology and other social science and health related disciplines.

This role will be based in the European Union, either at our Brussels (BE) office or Rotterdam (NL) and would suit those who have recently completed their PhD, or have completed a Master’s degree and have some relevant research experience in the academic, public or private sector.

We are open to applications from people with quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods backgrounds with a strong interest in policy and decision-making in the area of (public) health and care, health policies, wellbeing, and safety and health at work. RAND Europe operates on a hybrid working policy with the opportunity to work from home for part of the week. 

Key Responsibilities

 

Contributing to high-quality research by (for example):

  • drafting data collection tools
  • conducting literature reviews
  • conducting interviews or focus groups
  • undertaking analysis of quantitative and qualitative data
  • preparing presentations and research briefs
  • collaborating with others as part of proposal and project teams
  • Drafting sections of reports (with support)
  • Managing small to medium sized projects and proposals (with support), including monitoring budget, timetable, and deliverables, coordinating work by others and providing feedback
  • Ensuring timely and professional contact with collaborators, clients and funders
  • Contributing to impact by identifying opportunities for communication of research findings
  • Analysing calls for tender to identify proposal requirements
  • Supporting wider organisational and business development activities

Requirements

  • Doctorate in a relevant field; or a master’s degree with additional relevant experience
  • Good knowledge and experience of qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies and their application to research and analysis for European health policy
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Good skills with Excel, PowerPoint and Word; other relevant research software is an advantage
  • Fluency in English is essential and proficiency in one or more other EU languages would be an advantage (particularly French or Dutch)
  • Organised and with good time management skills
  • Client management and project management experience would be an advantage
