Graduate Quantity Surveyor

McLaughlin & Harvey are one of the leading Building and Civil Engineering Contractors operating throughout the UK and Ireland.

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and proactive Graduate Quantity Surveyor.

As a Graduate Quantity Surveyor, you will be enrolled in the McLaughlin and Harvey Graduate Development Programme. Recent projects include; The Kings College Hospital, Luton Airport & Blackpool Winter Garden Centre and Redevelopment of Liverpool Football Club’s Academy.

Responsibilities

Your main duties and responsibilities will include;

  • Preparing, negotiating and analysing costs for tenders and contracts
  • Ensure sub-contractors are pre-qualified in accordance with management systems
  • Procurement of Sub-Contractors and preparation of Sub-Contractor order documentation
  • Assessing and certification of sub-contractor interim payments and issuing appropriate Payment / Pay-less notices
  • Assisting on a range of legal and contractual issues
  • Preparation of Interim Valuations and Final Account
  • Managing and valuing Variations
  • Production of monthly Cost Value Reconciliation on contracts
  • Establish, maintain and enhance effective working relationships
  • Plan, allocate and evaluate work carried out by teams, individuals and self

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree qualified with a bachelor’s degree, HNC or HND in relevant discipline
  • Open to living away from home
  • Sound Commercial Awareness
  • Excellent communication & negotiation skills
  • High levels of organisational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent numerical, IT and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in fast moving Environment
  • Ability to work on initiative with minimum supervision
  • Good knowledge of construction contracts particularly JCT & NEC Forms

Desirable

  • Hold a full UK driving license
  • A valid CSCS card
  • Previous placement/internship experience in a similar role
