Julia Anderson Trainee in Digital Health

The purpose of the Julia Anderson trainee programme is to provide individuals who are at the early stage of their career with hands-on experience working on projects or activities conducted by the Institute of Global Health Innovation (IGHI). 

 

The Julia Anderson Trainee in Digital Health will work on two projects supporting a postdoctoral research associate. These two projects are: 

  1. A systematic review of literature to extract patient safety indicators for virtual consultations.
  2. Analysis of group discussions around the measures of safety of virtual consultations and communication issues in virtual care.

 

The trainee will get hands-on experience of digital health research and translating evidence into measurable interventions to improve patient safety in virtual care.

 

What you would be doing

Systematic reviews – reviewing the literature, extracting data, and critically appraising available literature to identify safety indicators relevant to virtual consultations 

  • Data analysis – qualitative data analysis, e.g., the analysis of group discussions about safety measures of virtual consultations and communication issues in virtual consultations
  • Work on writing or contributing to academic articles
  • Doing exploratory work and developing new ideas for research projects/space for collaborations with external stakeholders

 

What we are looking for

  • Undergraduate degree in healthcare/public health or any other relevant disciplineEssential
  • MSc Public Health or MPH or other public health related degree desirable
  • Have NOT previously completed an internship or graduate programme longer than two months
  • Must have no, or limited, prior paid or unpaid work experience at a university or organisation related to health, science, technology, or business management that lasted longer than two months
  • Experience working in teams and with people  
  • An understanding of (or an interest in) the principles of Patient Safety and Digital Health
  • An understanding of (or an interest in) in how to conduct engaged research data analysis
  • Highly organised and able to work to deadlines
  • Good communication skills, able to tailor messages to a wide range of audiences
  • Experience of or interest in, collaborating with others and developing their communication and teamworking skills  
  • Experience of academic writing (e.g. from essays during degree) 
  • Some knowledge of learning qualitative or quantitative research methods

This will be a fixed term role for 12 weeks, full time based St Mary's Campus.

In addition to the benefits of working within the behavioural science workstream at the Fleming Initiative, candidates will have the opportunity to work with the wider Patient Safety team, and network with colleagues at IGHI.
