Graduate Electronics Engineer

Domin are developing several new and exciting products which apply our servo valve and related technology across a variety of industries including aerospace, marine and automotive. We are looking for a driven and self-motivated engineering graduate to join the electronics team. The applicant will work across a range of projects and products including, but not limited to, pumps, valves, active suspension systems, compact integrated hydraulic power packs and advanced test rigs.

You will adapt existing designs, incorporate novel solutions, and propose new concept designs to meet customer needs across a range of challenging environments. The successful candidate will take ownership of their work and will be proactive in proposing and delivering appropriate solutions and demonstrate an ability to manage their workload effectively to meet project goals. You will have an eye for detail and develop broad and deep knowledge to work effectively with complex systems. You will work on products from concept stage through to volume production and will have the opportunity to work with and be supported by highly experienced engineering and production teams. You will be given both specific and long-term goals within the project or projects you are working on. The role will develop based on the skills, aptitudes and professional development direction of your career, and its alignment with customer projects and other business needs.

Training will be provided across the range of engineering activities undertaken by the electronics team to ensure you can deliver the work asked of them. There will be opportunities for you to work with a range of highly competent and experienced engineers across the organisation. We pride ourselves on an environment that encourages development of our team members, and you will be challenged to take on and deliver work which requires you to apply these skills as you develop them. You will be supported by those around you through this work through peer support, 1:1 time with your manager and technical leaders, regular knowledge sharing sessions, as well as a formal design review process which you will be expected to contribute to as a reviewer and presenter.

You will be expected to develop and apply skills and knowledge in a diverse range of disciplines relating to electronics including:

  • Electronic circuit design & simulation.
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer.
  • PCB assembly and rework as required for prototyping.
  • Circuit, PCBA and product level testing using lab equipment and bespoke test equipment.
  • Development and test of embedded software using modern C++ including hardware abstraction, automated build and test systems and CI/CD workflows using Github.
  • Simulation, design, and application of control systems for high performance dynamic systems, their implementation in embedded software and testing and tuning in the real world.
  • Cable harness design.
  • Electrical system design including test rigs.
  • Motor design and simulation.
  • Scripting and software development Python.

The role will be based in our office in central Bristol and you will be required to attend the production and development facility in Pucklechurch on the outskirts of Bristol on regular basis to support the integration of electronic hardware into the end-product during the product development process. Your contracted hours will be 40 per week with the option of working compressed hours for a 9-day fortnight with every other Friday off.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to work individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to meet project goals and to solve problems inside and outside their area of expertise.
  • Excellent electronics fundamentals including analogue and digital circuit design, power electronics, control theory, and motor control.
  • Demonstrated application of relevant engineering skills through industrial placement, previous work experience or course related and extracurricular engineering projects.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout in KiCAD, Altium Designer or similar ECAD package.
  • Motivated and professional personality.

Beneficial Requirements:

  • Programming in C, C++, or Python.
  • Electronics circuit design skills including simulation of electronic circuits using SPICE or similar tools.
  • Assembly and rework of electronics including hand soldering and wire harness assembly.
  • Broad understanding of related engineering subjects.
