GBP 7501 Climate Emergency Support Officer

 

Job Summary

 

A graduate is sought by Devon County Council to support the Devon Climate Emergency Project Manager, principally with partner and wider stakeholder engagement and communications requirements of the Devon Climate Emergency project. You will be employed by the University of Exeter and seconded to Devon County Council.

 

This role is part of the Graduate Business Partnership (GBP) scheme and offers full time hours (36.5 p/w) from November 2024 until October 2025. This role offers hybrid work where you can work remote and from County Hall, Exeter.

Purpose of the Role

 

The main purpose of this job is to support the stakeholder management and engagement requirements of the Devon Climate Emergency project, working closely with the Devon Climate Emergency Project Manager. The role will interact with the Marketing, Press & PR Teams at Devon County Council. Assistance will be provided by the role to similar teams of the partner organisations on the Devon Climate Emergency Response Group to ensure communications are consistent across the project partners. The role will also help ensure the partners feel involved in the project and will network with them and wider stakeholders to increase engagement and awareness of the partnership’s activities and to promote the activities to an extensive audience. 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

 

  • To lead the delivery of a broad range of communication activity with the support of the Devon Climate Emergency Project Manager. 
  • Devise, deliver and evaluate high quality marketing and communication activities
  • Organise engagement events for the public and project partners as may be necessary.
  • Represent the project at events/meetings
  • Maintain and create content for the Devon Climate Emergency website.
  • Produce press releases and other forms of media communication for the project partners. 
  • Work on, manage and continually innovate the project’s approach to social media.
  • Monitor the impact of communications and marketing activity, preparing data and reports for the Devon Climate Emergency Project Manager and project partners.
  • Ensure all communications and marketing activities are accessible to everyone, such as hard-to-reach groups, and that they are in line with Devon County Council’s commitment to equality and diversity.
  • Help collate and share activity being implemented across Devon that is delivering the Devon Carbon Plan and the Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Climate Adaptation Strategy.
  • Prepare papers and minutes for partnership meetings.
  • Support the Devon Climate Emergency Project Manager with other tasks commensurate with the role.

  • Daily line management and support will be provided by the Devon Climate Emergency Project Manager within Devon County Council’s Environment Team.

About the Company

 

The post is hosted by Devon County Council’s Environment Group which is based at County Hall, Exeter and includes a range of specialist officers covering issues relating to ecology, marine and estuaries, landscapes, flooding, historic environment, energy and climate change. The team works flexibly from home or the office. There will be a need to attend physical engagement events in Devon, such as the County Show. 

 

Devon County Council is leading a Devon-wide response to the climate emergency. Thirty organisations are working together through the Devon Climate Emergency Response Group to implement a Devon Carbon Plan and the Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Climate Adaptation Strategy. Graduate Business Partnership (GBP) Scheme Requirements

 

  • To undertake a graduate role through the GBP scheme, you must have either achieved your degree or be in your final year at any UK-based university
  • If you are in your final year, your working hours may be reduced to 15 hours per week (for undergraduates) or 6 hours per week (for postgraduates) to ensure you have the capacity to successfully complete your degree.
