Information Governance Assistant – Police Staff – Compliance and Assurance – Counter Terrorism Policing HQ

This key role will see you join the Information Governance Team, a unit that’s based at CTPHQ (Counter Terrorism Policing HQ). Here, our team focuses on the strategic management and delivery of data compliance and governance. 

Your main task will be to give accurate guidance on all data compliance matters across the CT network. Day to day, you’ll also collate, review and advise the business on the Data Protection Impact Assessments screening question process, facilitate Data Governance Boards and review IGU documentation and toolkits. Whatever the task – and whoever the client – you’ll promote best practice and a consistent approach.

Job Summary

The Counter Terrorism Police Headquarters (CTPHQ) Information Governance Team is a unit that sits within the Compliance and Assurance Pillar.  The purpose of the unit is to assist in the strategic management and delivery of data compliance and governance. The Information Governance Unit is responsible for providing advice and guidance on data protection compliance issues across the CT Policing Network and MPS SO Command.​

​In addition, the team responsibilities include:​ Data Protection Act requests and queries; Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA’s) and Data Sharing Agreements (DSA), ensuring agreements comply with data regulations and underpin legislation, whilst still enabling effective collaboration with CT Policing partner organisations.​

Your role will be responsible for providing advice & guidance on all matters relating to data compliance across the CT Policing Network, promoting best practice and providing a consistent approach to data compliance. ​To triage data Impact Assessments screening questions between CT Policing and partners. As well as managing the Data Compliance Boards, to develop compliance across the CT Policing Network.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collate, review and advise the business on  the Data Protection Impact Assessments screening question process
  • Work with colleagues to collate and advise the business on data protection queries
  • Proactively engage with the business and key stakeholders to ensure all data compliance issues are being managed in accordance with legal and statutory requirements
  • Work with the business to embed best practice and ensure data protection standards are maintained
  • Ensure all sharing arrangements and data protection impact assessments are centrally held and annually reviewed in line with CT Policing Policy
  • Maintain and develop the Information Governance register
  • Support review of IGU documentation and toolkits annually
  • Facilitate and manage Data Protection Governance Board
  • Manage IGU risk register and ensure appropriate escalation to the governance boards

Vetting

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required.

Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) or Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.

Confidentiality Agreement
