Student Fundraiser Job Description


Job Title: Student Fundraiser (Part-time)
 
Join our team of friendly student telephone fundraisers! Talk to graduates from around the world and fundraise to help support students in need and accelerate life-saving research at the University of Liverpool.

The Development & Alumni Relations team manage the University’s single largest stakeholder group of more than 240,000 alumni worldwide. Our activity seeks to establish and maintain a connection with our alumni post-graduation, ultimately increasing the involvement of our alumni with the University, creating a community of engaged graduates that are willing to support the University either through time, expertise, advocacy, or financial support.  

We are now seeking an exceptional candidate to join our team in the role of student fundraiser. As a student fundraiser, you’ll raise money to support life-changing projects at the University and engage with our alumni and friends on the phone. As well as asking alumni for their support through a donation, you’ll also answer any questions they may have and keep our database records up to date. 

Duties and responsibilities: 

The main duties of a telephone fundraiser will include calling graduates, speaking to them about the University and encouraging their support for students at Liverpool today through a donation to the Alumni & Friends Fund.

You will be an ambassador for the University and the Development and Alumni Relations team (DART) including having photographs and quotes featured on university webpages. 

The work is not just an opportunity for you to earn around your study commitments. More importantly, it will provide you with the chance to enhance your work experience and the quality of your CV, setting you apart from others in the job market. There are some valuable skills to be learnt such as negotiation, diplomacy, communication in a business environment, and last, but not least, the gentle art of persuasion!
 
Person specification:

  • A University of Liverpool student with a genuine enthusiasm for, and good working knowledge of the University
  • Confident, clear telephone manner with the ability to creatively elaborate on a basic script
  • Reliable, adaptable, and flexible attitude to work
  • Ability to think on your feet and use your initiative
  • Great attention to detail – Able to write accurate notes and record calls using our software
  • Ability to work on your own and as part of a team
  • Good persuasion skills and techniques and resilience to cope with difficult situations 
  • Excellent communication and listening skills (must be a fluent speaker of English)
  • Must be able to show dedication, and have the perseverance and desire to overcome
  • Able to work two shifts per week and attend the training (dates below)

Campaign dates: 

  1. The campaign will take place on campus from 7 March until 8 May 2022 from 6-9 pm on weekdays and 3-6 pm on Sundays. (Please note there will be a 3-week break during Easter 4 - 24 April)
  2. There will be 2 compulsory training sessions on Saturday 5 March and Sunday 6 March (times TBC)
  3. Callers will be required to work at least two shifts a week on campus – you can choose the shifts you work
