Graduate Assistant Consent Officer - Electricity Transmission

As a Graduate Junior Consents Officer on our Graduate Development Programme, you will get the opportunity to bring fresh thinking, new perspectives and enthusiasm to the company. You’ll have real responsibility and an opportunity to make an impact from day one. 

Our 18-month programmes are made up of three, six-month placements and not only a great opportunity to join the Consents team at National Grid but you’ll be part of a team responsible for delivering a crucial service to the National Grid business. 

You’ll ensure that the project consents are delivered economically, and in accordance with current legislation, regulations and guidance. You’ll follow internal best practice, process and guidance to ensure that specification, program cost, and National Grid’s reputation continues to be enhanced 
Some of your key activities will be: 

  • Lead, manage and co-ordinate the delivery of minor project consents and allocated consenting activities for major projects 
  • Responsible for challenging, advising and guiding project teams in relation to the design and development of projects, specifically the program, cost and reputational impacts of making changes to the aforementioned 
  • Prepare, update and effectively communicate comprehensive Consents (& Land) Strategies for projects 
  • Responsible for ensuring that project resource requirements are identified, procured and sufficiently embedded within the project team ahead of need 
  • Proactively manage the project consents resource and provide current financial information to the Project Manager, ensuring value for money and appropriate challenge into the project teams to deliver this 
  • Ensure that project specific good practice and lessons learnt are identified, properly recorded for the purposes of consenting process improvement and formulation of positions and guidance for Consents Officers and the wider business conducive to obtaining project consents and undertaking stakeholder engagement 
  • Escalate more complex consents issues to, and obtain support from, senior colleagues (Senior Consents Officers) where necessary 
  • Proactively develop relevant skills and consistently build capability in the consenting and environmental assessment disciplines conducive to more effective project delivery  

This role is based at Warwick, Leeds with flexible, hybrid working. 


About you

 
If leading, managing, and co-ordinating the delivery of minor projects is how you like to work, as well as being up to date or in the know of innovative new techniques and technologies, then you’ll certainly be interested in supporting our Consents team! 
  
You’ll need a 2.2 (or above) degree in Environmental Science, Geography, Ecology, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Law, Maths, or Physics. 
 
You will also have a valid full UK Driving Licence 3 months prior to your start date.
