Description of Team / Department

Finance
Our graduate trainee manager programmes have been designed to attract, develop, and retain the graduates who will become our future leaders. During the programme you will get the chance to participate in wider company development activities and project delivery as well as commit time to your professional development in role. We will support you with a variety of training modules and one-to-one coaching from managers and mentors.

We will equip you with an in-depth understanding of our business and the leadership, technical and people skills you'll need as a future business leader. Providing you with a long term career path, the graduate programme is only the first step in what could be a fulfilling career at Hanson; within the two or three years, you are likely to be one of our frontline leaders within one of our 300 sites across the UK.


Purpose of / Responsibilities of the role

The Finance Graduate would work rotate across the 5 Departments detailed below and spend 4-5 months within each Department. The Finance Graduate would also undertake their ACCA training
whilst with the Business. To gain as much experience as possible across Hanson UK, developing operational, commercial and leadership skills.
The duties that will be undertaken in the preparation of statutory accounts are as follows:
  • Extracting numbers from a trial balance (from SUN systems) and preparing an extended trial balance for the statutory accounts within Excel.
  • Checking prior year comparatives and reviewing board minutes for the financial year.
  • Checking investment positions within the group structure to check for any potential impairment or reversal of impairment.
  • Checking intercompany loan positions for recoverability and cross checking to the counterparty.
  • Posting journals required for statutory account adjustments where needed.
  • Uploading the updated extended trial balance into Caseware (accounts preparation software) and mapping the figures to present the accounts correctly.
  • Providing any required reconciliations between the statutory accounts and the trial balance.
  • Understanding and applying FRS 101, FRS 102 and IFRS standards required in preparation of account.
  • Producing information for detailed note disclosures required within the accounts.
  • Dealing with auditor queries in relation to the statutory accounts.

Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A)
  • Assist in the preparation of appropriate analysis of performance, forecasts and plans in advance of formal CEO/FD reviews, and challenge the business in reviews.
  • Assist in providing monthly reporting and analysis for Group RCC, understanding and reconciling the differences between UK management and Group reporting.
Tax
  • Assist in the compliance process for trading and corporate companies (as determined) to ensure an accurate and timely filing of all tax returns and ensure that all legal documentation requirements are fulfilled; this will include ensuring that the tax disclosures in the statutory accounts are accurate, as well as making appropriate claims and elections.
  • Tax reporting for various reporting units at each quarter-end, year-end and for the budget/plan
Shared Service Centre (SSC) Accounting
  • Consolidation of legacy accounts into source ledger with detailed analysis as to how merge into consolidated group accounts.
  • Deal with historic fixed assets adjustments following ledger migrations and reconciling to current Fixed Asset Registers.

Skills / Experience

2:1 Finance & Accounting and be willing to undertake their ACCA training whilst at Hanson.
