National Performance Graduate

Our 2023 National Performance Graduate Programme includes the opportunity to join our team based primarily from our Solihull Tarmac Hub Offices close to Birmingham Airport in the West Midlands, this is a hybrid working role working in office, at home and also across our sites. On days you are required to be based in office, this role is commutable from Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, Bedworth, Kenilworth, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Lichfield, Cannock, Sutton Coldfield, Nuneaton, Tamworth, Hinkley, Redditch, Bromsgrove, Worcester, and the surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities


From Building Products, where we lead across UK markets, to Logistics, Commercial Performance and Technical, where our team lead materials R&D from conception to business delivery, our National Performance teams have a critical role to play in the success of Tarmac. 
We’ve an exciting opportunity for a National Performance Graduate, where you will have the opportunity to learn about multiple areas within Tarmac through structured rotations.  
This will give you an amazing opportunity to network, build up your business knowledge and gain experience to get you into your perfect destination role. 

Ideally suited to graduates who are interested in all parts of our business (Operations, Commercial, Technical) and passionate about business management and leading teams - this role gives you the opportunity to learn about how our National Performance business is run!  

Key focus of our National Performance Graduate, not exhaustive: 
  • You’ll get exposure to nationwide sites, working on priority projects 
  • Develop an understanding of financial performance, logistics, learning what it takes to deliver performance  
  • Meet customer requirements in a fast paced and time critical environment 
  • You’ll support our management teams, help us make sure we’re all on the same page and experience a role where no two days are the same! 
  • Contribution towards our performance & optimisation strategy through understanding of challenges and opportunities​ 
  • Nurturing and Building strong relationships with our customers​ 
  • Identifying and Targeting new customers to growing our commercial pipeline 
  • Taking pride in all work completed and being determined to succeed​! 

Whilst you’re learning on the job, you’ll attend our Graduate core Skills Development Programme designed to expand your business knowledge, strengthen core skills and offer networking opportunities with other graduates and key stakeholders across the Tarmac business in order to successfully transition into your destination role​. 

Key Colleagues you will liaise with in this role of National Performance Graduate:  
  • Your business management team and their direct reports (Logistics Performance, Commercial Performance, Procurement, National Commercial, Building Products, Technical) 
  • Your Line Manager who will give you help and guidance throughout your programme

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful for this role the ideal candidate for the position of National Performance Graduate will have, or be able to demonstrate: 
ESSENTIAL Qualification 
  • A Degree that you followed your passion in 
  • Willing to work in different locations across UK and Ireland (and international assignments in the future) 
  • Full UK Driving Licence - Vehicle provided
DESIRABLE Skills 
  • Organisational, Communication and Analytical skills 
  • Passionate about working safely 
  • Motivated and loves a challenge 
  • Enthusiastic about starting a career in the construction manufacturing and production industry!
