Graduate Compliance Engineer

REPORTING LINE:
The Graduate Compliance Engineer will initially report to the Technical Director; however this reporting line will move to the Head of Compliance.
 
DEPARTMENTAL OVERVIEW:
The Technical team is the critical department of Artemis Technologies. The Compliance Department sits within the Technical Team and is responsible for ensuring all vessel, eFoiler® systems, lithium-ion battery, decarbonisation technology projects undertaken by ATL reach successful compliance outcomes to relevant regulations. This covers all disciplines of mechanical design, engineering, integration, propulsion, naval architecture, electrical and simulation and to ensure that ATL are able to execute their commitments. The department is critical for the delivery and performance of all ATL products.
 






THE ROLE: 

The Graduate Compliance Engineer will be responsible for supporting design and engineering activities from a compliance perspective - in particular assisting with providing guidance as to which regulations our vessels, our systems and batteries shall comply to. Assisting Senior Engineers and working with peers, the Graduate Compliance Engineer will assist and advise on developing innovative, world class solutions to complex integration and mechanical design and naval architecture problems within the bounds of the regulatory framework. It is expected that the role will be fulfilled in the ATL offices in Northern Ireland.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES: 
  • Support and report to Head of Compliance as per each project’s needs and the boat development and commercial programs where required.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the ATL technical team departments, under guidance from the Head of Compliance, assisting and coordinating the planning and certification specifications and reporting to enable commercialization of ATL products by obtaining the required compliance documentation and testing. This may include specification of components and subsystems relating to batteries or electric propulsion systems or other ATL projects, risk register reporting or furthering type approval of products.
  • Ability to sift standards and regulations and assist in drawing up compliance roadmaps.
  • Work with external parties to obtain required compliance documentation.
  • Assist with providing0 guidelines to ATL technical team members to achieve certification.
  • Support ATL commercial projects with compliance guidelines relevant to the end user / customer.
  • Assist in maintaining and reporting on the ATL project planning tools.
  • Work closely with ATL design team to ensure designs are of the highest standard and delivered as per regulatory requirements in line with project schedule / milestones.
  • Introduce new technology to ATL where appropriate.
  • Attend team and 1-1 meetings and fulfil reporting requirements as required by ATL.
  • Ensure compliance with ATL Policies and Procedures.
  • Build good working relationships across ATL.
  • Contribute to shaping a culture that reflects ATL Values and Guiding Principles and enables the company to achieve its goals.







PERSON SPECIFICATION:


Education/Qualifications and Experience:

  • Have obtained or expected to obtain University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or other relevant engineering discipline (2:1 Hons or above is preferred).
  • An industrial year or summer placement of relevant professional experience in the marine industry ideally with experience of electric propulsion systems or hybrid propulsion and some knowledge of the UK maritime regulatory framework.

Key Skills Required:
Technical skills:
  • Experience in reading 2D technical drawings for production.
  • Broad working knowledge of materials, especially of FRP, and including mechanical testing methods.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems integration, especially relating to rotating equipment / electric propulsion, HV DC systems (360V to 800V) and associated systems.
  • Analysis and verification through risk assessment.
  • Understanding of class and statutory rules and regulations and their application to vessel design.
  • Knowledge of basic ship safety systems.
 
Communication skills:
  • Good report writing skills – clear, concise, and well structured.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Teamworking:
  • Ability to relate well to others, and build co-operative and collaborative working relationships, both internally and externally.

Organising Skills:
  • Ability to coordinate with other departments and externally relating to flag issues.
  • A focus on ‘delivery’ to an agreed schedule.
