Industrial Placement Commercial Analyst, BritNed - National Grid Ventures

National Grid Ventures (NGV) is our business area which focuses on energy ventures, including Interconnectors. Interconnectors play a key part in the UK’s energy industry, connecting us to our neighbouring countries and providing sustainable, flexible energy transmission. NGV currently owns and operates a portfolio of interconnectors and is in the process of constructing and developing a number of further interconnectors. As well as providing National Grid with strong financial performance, successful operation of these interconnectors offers the GB System Operator a greater diversity of supply, facilitates competition across Europe and helps address the intermittency issues posed by renewables. 
 
 
BritNed Development Limited offers you the chance to gain unique experience from working in an incorporated joint venture business. You will work as part of a European team with our partner TenneT (the Dutch Transmission System Operator) to operate the HVDC interconnector between Great Britain and The Netherlands. 
 
 
When you join our 12-month Industrial Placement Programme, you’ll be working in the Commercial team who are responsible for all auction / non-auction-based revenue streams and the development of commercial services. As BritNed is a small team covering all disciplines. You will be involved in some self-directed projects as well as supporting the wider business. 
 
 
Travel with GB and across Europe will be a requirement for this role but base will be in Warwick.
 
 
Examples of work for this role include: 
 
 
  • Create and understand customer journeys to offer a better customer experience 
  • Work along-side other NGV interconnector portfolio to share best practice and build knowledge and expertise 
  • Manage and update key commercial contracts 
  • Provide market analysis support, guidance and steering to identify optimisation opportunities and new revenue streams 
  • Contribute to the development of existing and new products, working alongside internal stakeholders 
  • Develop business processes/procedures and lead implementation projects for commercial implementations 
 
 
You’ll be joining the growing Interconnector team at an exciting time, with the Net Zero challenges and new projects being investigated, Interconnectors is at the heart of this within National Grid Ventures! 
 
 
 



About you

 
 
You’ll be on track to achieve a minimum 2.1 degree in Numerical, Engineering, Business, Finance, or Computing.  
 
 
You have a genuine interest and passion in the Energy Industry and how it works, and problem solving and analytical skills with innovative thinking. You’ll also have an interest in the Energy transition to net zero, UK energy markets and working with multiple stakeholders.
