MATLAB Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

Your work as Smart-H's newest Software Engineer will involve using MATLAB, specifically Simulink to model changes made to Electronic Control Units (ECUs) in vehicles and how that effects engine efficiency and emissions generation. This will require an understanding of the basic internal workings of vehicles, including Diesel Particle Filters (DPFs), Engine Gas Recirculation (EGR), Knock Sensors, CAN bus, OBDII, and ECU map-packs as well as as firm grasp of MATLAB.

Smart-H is investigating actionable smart-city technology, which can also be modelled on MATLAB, this will most likely be a secondary project. (Further details can be revealed during the interview process).

SKILLS REQUIRED FOR A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

Ideal candidates will:

  • have used MATLAB for similar functions,
  • be able to work independently,
  • be in interested in vehicle decarbonisation,
  • have a robust understanding of the internal workings of vehicles (diesel preferred),
  • have good time management skills,
  • be able to communicate their findings effectively with the Smart-H team,
  • have a interest in sustainability,

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The professional development of Smart-H's staff is of the upmost importance to the company and you will have direct communication with a line-manager, as well as having contact with the rest of the team on a regular basis. Smart-H constantly works with high-level academic institutions, local governance, and the private sector. You will also be expected to join internal company meetings where you will have access to our global industry leading team. This includes Smart-H's MD, Gary Nicholson - Ex-Director Rolls Royce (+15yrs), COO Ian Gordon - +20yrs worth of experience managing projects across the globe, Lead Chemist Domanique Bridglalsingh - has degrees in Biochemistry+Molecular Biology and is now focussing on the production of efficient hydrogen electrolysers, our USA team, and industry leaders with some of the companies we are working alongside, including, Müller, Yeo Valley, Exeter Airport, and Ixora Energy.

The whole team are happy to discuss subject knowledge and business expertise. A direct result of the job will be experience in corporate presentations, and research.

LEVEL OF SUPPORT

Our team is currently working from home so the successful candidate will also be expected to work remotely. There will be a check-in meeting with your line-manager at least once a week and meetings with the rest of the team daily.
