Research Fellow in Applied Software Engineering (KTP Associate)

About us

This is an exciting opportunity for machine learning postgraduates and postdocs to lead a project that will apply cutting edge research in computer vision, 3D information and Situational Awareness Systems in a brand new way to the digital technology industry. Based at Mo-Sys, a global leader in creating original and highly sophisticated camera technology products, and with full support from computer science experts at UCL, the KTP Associate will work on innovations that will make Mo-Sys the leader in AI-enabled virtual and remote production in the film, TV and broadcast industry. The KTP will give the company's robotic camera heads a new auto-framing capability, which will transform virtual and remote production by making it smarter, simpler and more accessible. This will involve developing new algorithms, applying them in a real-world, challenging environment and developing a system which will use a novel combination of algorithms and techniques to generate real impact in Mo-Sys’s fast-moving business environment.

The successful candidate will be part of the prestigious 40-year-old national Knowledge Transfer Partnership programme offering a dedicated professional development budget, a network of fellow Associates from many disciplines and training and mentoring opportunities. The Associate will also have the opportunity to write publications about their work alongside the academic and company team. Find out more about KTPs here: https://www.ktp-uk.org/graduates/

The successful candidate will get to apply their non-trivial coding, real-time computer vision algorithms, software revision systems, agile tool and SLAM (either dense or sparse) skills on a daily basis to a cutting-edge AI-enabled virtual and remote production project. Strong communication skills, a collaborative attitude and good project management skills will ensure the KTP Associate fully enjoys the benefits of their unique position at the interface between industry and academia, including their close access to computer science experts from both.

This role is offered at full-time and is funded until 31st October 2024 in the first instance.

Please note that research staff that do not have a PhD in the subject will be appointed on Grade 6B and will have the title Research Assistant.

Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B (£34,502 - £36,348) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis. Research staff without a PhD may exceptionally be appointed as Research Fellows.
