Position available: Trainee ‘Machine Shop’ Technical Engineer
 
Role Purpose:
You will be involved in machining interesting parts that are small to medium batch quantities. The applicant will be required to create programs with experience using CNC mills with 3 & 4 axis controls on Mazak vertical machining centers. Applicant to understand drawings with close tolerances and be experienced in machining different types of materials.  
 
Responsibilities:
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work-piece as guides for subsequent machining as necessary.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines as necessary to machine parts as required.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerised machine control media according to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work-piece to specifications, using measuring and inspection tools as necessary.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks on machines as required.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and maintain all equipment, to like new appearance, according to maintenance plans and established procedures.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
  • Continue to grow lean knowledge and use the tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that safe work practices are followed and adhered to.

Salary TBA depending on experience, knowledge, qualifications.  
 
Hours of work: Monday–Friday 7.30 am– 4 pm (40 hours) with 2x 15mins paid tea breaks and 30mins unpaid lunch break
 
Job Types: Permanent
Probation: 3 months
Holiday: Holiday 28 days including bank holidays. 
 
Qualification & skills required for this position:
Essential Requirements:
·      Degree (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering 2:1 or above
 
Skills:
You will need to show:
·      A level of technical and scientific knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to practical problems
·      Able to problem solve working in isolation to achieve goals and targets set.
  • Good oral communication skills and confidence in dealing with a wide range of people, including clients, contractors, designers, directors and plant operators;
  • Precise and concise written communication skills;
  • The ability to work well within a team;
  • IT skills, particularly computer-aided design;
  • Creative ability;
  • The ability to work under pressure;
  • Organisational skills, such as time and resource planning
Non-Essential:
  • Experience of various CNC equipment
  • Understanding of CAM system (Hypermil)
  • Knowledge of processes and how to control and measure manufactured parts
Training will be given.

Pension: You will be automatically enrolled in the Government’s pension scheme. This is a legal requirement. You will contribute 5% of your wages, while Copsey Engineering contribute a further 3%. If you wish to use an existing pension scheme, you may opt-out.
