Health and Safety Junior Consultant

Summary

£38,500 up to £45,100* - This isn’t 9-5. This is making the most of every day.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an established and highly motivated individual to join our Trading Compliance team in this fast-paced, quality focussed retail environment. If you are passionate about safety and want to use your proven track record to make a real impact, then this role is for you. The successful candidate will play a vital part in ensuring that we meet our regulatory requirements, ensuring the safety of all colleagues, customers and contractors within our stores, warehouses and offices.

 

Our Trading Compliance team, based at our Head Office in Surbiton, manages and shapes all aspects of Health & Safety, Food Safety, Fire Safety, Age Restricted Sales and Environmental Protection Policy within Lidl. You will be supporting our colleagues and ensuring safety is at the forefront of everything we do. Integrating effectively with our senior management teams to lead compliance and to ensure high colleague engagement across our sites.  This role supports the business in the broad disciplines of Food Safety, Health & Safety & Trading Standards; knowledge of one or more of these areas is essential. The successful candidate will have a proven track record, ideally in a large, multi-site organisation in these areas alongside holding their NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent, as a minimum.

 

We have moved to a hybrid working model with a recommended 2 days in the office per week for appropriate Head Office and Regional roles, empowering our teams to choose how and where they work best. We feel it is important that, where possible, we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible and trust our teams to determine the right environments that work most effectively for them.

 

 

What you'll do

 

  • Maintain a collaborative culture internally, sharing best practice and ideas, seeking opportunities for improvement and innovation
  • Provide technical support to key decision makers and influence projects to ensure health and safety and food safety is at the forefront of decision making
  • Develop corporate policy and test new initiatives
  • Deal with a wide range of legal and operational issues including providing technical guidance and reactive support
  • Develop and maintain a positive safety culture across all operational areas
  • Use your technical knowledge to ensure that risk assessments and internal procedures remain current, effective and achievable
  • Actively participate in meetings to bring a safety perspective and understanding to the business
  • Proactively improve compliance and standards at our Stores, Regional Distribution Centres, Head Office, and construction sites.
  • Produce, evaluate, and issue various analysis and performance reports
  • Incident and accidents investigation
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and audits across sites to ensure the necessary levels of understanding and compliance are in place
  • Represent and support the Company during local authority investigations, enforcement and engagement
  • Liaise with external service providers to ensure the highest levels of service and statutory compliance
  • Support corporate goals and maintain Lidl at the forefront of regulatory compliance

What you'll need

 

  • You will need to hold a NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent NQF/QCF in Health and Safety Management, as a minimum. You will be asked to provide certification at interview stage
  • Candidates must demonstrate recent relevant experience in applying Health and Safety policy and standards in the workplace ideally within a multi-site retail, warehousing or construction environment
  • Excellent communication skills with proven experience engaging with key internal and external stakeholders including colleagues at all levels, contractors, regulators and enforcement agencies
  • A strong technical knowledge across relevant health and safety legislation and ideally have knowledge in food safety, fire safety and construction related matters
  • Commercially aware and understand the current business challenges within the industry
  • Flexibility to travel to all areas within GB and must hold a full UK driving license
  • Effective time management skills, able to work within tight time frames with ability to plan and prioritise, and think clearly and strategically
  • Strong written skills and IT skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint as a minimum
  • Excellent team player, as part of a progressive fast paced team, with ability to effectively work independently and as part of a team
  • Enthusiastic with a solution focused attitude, self-motivated and dedicated to achieving the highest results
