Graduate Structural / Civil Engineer 2024

As a Structural / Civil Engineer you will be expected to work in a design office environment, whilst providing working design solutions to technical problems under the supervision of a senior member of the team.

Responsibilities

§  Provide best value working design solutions to technical problems under the supervision of a senior member of the team.

§  Assist with formulating the scope of works and developing the design philosophy.

§  Work collaboratively with other members of the design team to ensure the timely delivery of information. 

§  Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary design environment such that designs consider the impact across all relevant disciplines.

§  Undertake calculations using design software but also by hand as required.

§  Have knowledge of the current Standards expected for the principal building materials used in the industry.

§  Provide sufficient information and support to enable Technicians to produce detailed design drawings suitable for construction.

§  Produce detailed design drawings suitable for construction using CAD software e.g. AutoCAD, Revit when required.

§  Produce high quality hand sketches to communicate design information.

§  Have a working knowledge of Statutory Regulations and Codes of Practice.

§  Have a working knowledge of the CDM 2015 regulations, ensuring that designs are compliant and produce Designers Risk Assessments for projects.

§  Have an awareness and develop a working knowledge of 3D Modelling and Building Information Modelling.

§  Produce written reports and specifications for works under the supervision of a senior member of the team.

§  Undertake site visits and site surveys.

§  Be dynamic and proactive in overcoming challenges presented by clients, contractors and other members of the design team.

§  Learn from mistakes.

Person Specification

§  Ability to work effectively within a design team environment.

§  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

§  Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

§  Competent user of relevant design software packages, as well as Microsoft Word and Excel.

§  Knowledge of current markets conditions.

§  Ability to work under pressure, whilst ensuring deadlines are met.

§  A proven commitment to continued professional development. You will be encouraged to register with the Institution of Civil Engineers or The Institution of Structural Engineers to complete a formal period of training leading to the Chartered Professional Review and consequently gain Chartered Membership of the Institution.

Qualifications and Experience

§  Graduating summer 2024 with an Accredited degree in relevant discipline. MEng is typically required to achieve Chartered status.
