Graduate Electrical Engineer.

TriConnex have an extremely exciting opportunity available for a Graduate Electrical Engineer.  Based at our office in Braintree, you will have the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting and ground-breaking projects that are happening across the UK power sector! 

This role can be based within our Design or Operational department teams to fit your skills, knowledge and background.

Once appointed, you will work with (and learn from) an experienced Power Industry Electrical Engineer who will be your mentor, as well as working alongside various technical teams across our business.

Mentored through a tailored development plan, you will be set learning and development targets to ensure that you progress your own knowledge, experience and learning. Successful progress will provide you with the knowledge and experience to take on various exciting roles across the power sector and be a part of the green transition.

The following is a list of the key activities that you will have the chance to learn about whilst working alongside our engineers. Note that you won’t be expected to cover everything, we will discuss and tailor a development plan with you that will cover a mix of Electrical Design, Power System Engineering and/or Grid Consultancy activities.

Key Activities

  • Develop meticulous switching programs and actively contribute to the testing and commissioning of HV/LV distribution systems, including switching operations.
  • Champion a culture of safety by implementing robust safety practices, reporting incidents, conducting risk assessments, and facilitating audits to ensure a positive Health and Safety environment.
  • To plan future work with the Operations Managers and Planners as appropriate
  • Play a pivotal role in team development and continuous improvement efforts, collaborating with the management team to elevate team performance.
  • Problem solve with other engineering disciplines
  • Support our engineering teams in a range of electrical design related activities, and learning from them as you do so. This includes 11kV electricity networks across the whole UK.
  • Liaise with and relay technical information to customers and network companies

The following summarise some of the key skills and experience that we can provide you with the opportunity to develop:

Key Development Areas:

  • Detailed Knowledge of UK Transmission & Distribution industry
  • Strong knowledge of DNO and IDNO technical requirements, including G81 standards
  • Knowledge of IET codes of practice an advantage (Electric Vehicles, PV systems, Electrical Storage)
  • Knowledge of BS 7671 18th edition
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant ENA Engineering Recommendations (G99, G100, P28, P29 etc).
  • Experience in working on utilities or major infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of UK Transmission & Distribution industry
  • Effective communication skills, to include management of key working relationships.

We are seeking individuals who are effective communicators with strong problem solving skills. Highly organised, you will also have a keen eye for detail. 

You will have obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar) with minimum 2:2 grade and be able to demonstrate knowledge of/strong interest in power networks, renewable energy and/or electrification of vehicles.
