Electrical Building Services Graduate Engineer

Description of Activities
 
The general roles and responsibilities of the Graduate Engineer will include but will not be limited to:
  • Development of feasibility studies and scheme designs
  • Preparing system schematic drawings and layout drawings
  • Carrying out design calculations using manual and computer based (i.e. Hevacomp, Cymap) calculation methods
  • Use of AutoCAD and Revit drawing and building modelling tools to assist in the design process
  • Sizing / selection of equipment to be used in the various systems
  • Preparing specifications, tender documentation.
  • Monitoring of installation works on site
  • Conducting surveys of existing installations and assisting in preparing condition reports
  • Preparing project cost plans and budget estimates
  • Liaising with clients and end users to understand their needs
  • Liaising with external design team members and other professionals, main contractors and building services sub-contractors
  • Liaising with internal design team members to develop a co-ordinated M & E solution
  • Considering energy efficiency and other sustainability issues
  • Meeting with manufacturers and suppliers to keep up to date with new product developments
  • Continued professional development through the attendance on in-house seminars

During the development programme, engineers will gain an in-depth knowledge of a variety of standards such as:
  • Building Regulations
  • British and European Standards
  • CIBSE Guidelines
  • Industry Standards and Guidelines (e.g. BSRIA, HVCA etc.)
  • NHS / Department of Health Guidelines
  • Department for Education Guidelines
