Created a sense of involvement with the university and campus. Also gave me the opportunity to meet lots of other students from different subject areas and years that I would not have met if it wasn't for the scheme. Also, a great opportunity to feel as though you are making a difference to the everyday running of the university and the student's wellbeing.
What I wish was different
Opportunities to work with peer mentors from other faculties.
Advice
Make sure you throw yourself in and volunteer for as much as you possibly can, this way it will feel the most rewarding and you will gain the most out of it.

Peer Mentor
July 2019 - June 2020 • Liverpool, England
What I liked
It was great to be able to give back to the University and help students with the same issues that my friends and I had faced when we were starting out. Kate Murray was a great project leader and supervisor and she always kept in communication about new and exciting opportunities and events to help at. In the role, I was able to run sessions with the University of Liverpool KnowHow Team based in the library and this helped me grow as a communicator and deliver talks on time management and work-life balance.
What I wish was different
I wish more students had got involved with the scheme as mentees to benefit from the amazing resources on offer. The scheme was only in it's first year, so I suspect that participation will increase year on year.
Advice
I would advise to throw yourself into every opportunity you hear about as you will learn something new and meet new people every time.

Sustainability Intern
August - September 2020 • Liverpool, England
What I liked
I learnt so much abut sustainability and the UN's sustainability development goals, as well as getting valuable experience of module creation in academia. it was amazing to liaise with academics and employers to come together and create the "Sustainability in Action" module. The module was really well received by students and I'm so proud of the outcome.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have met my team in person! With Covid-19, the whole internship and module creation was done completely virtually.
Advice
Don't be disheartened by constructive criticism, feedback or technical difficulties throughout the experience - it is an amazing way to improve your work and helps to build up your resilience and problem solving skills.
